# Piece set attributions

These SVGs are vendored from [lichess-org/lila](https://github.com/lichess-org/lila)
(`public/piece/`), per that project's `COPYING.md`. Each set keeps its own
license — none of these are relicensed by inclusion here.

| Directory | Lichess set | Author(s) | License |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `merida/` | merida | Armando Hernandez Marroquin | [GPLv2+](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.txt) |
| `alpha/` | alpha | Eric Bentzen (bundled under lila's own terms) | [AGPLv3+](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.txt) |
| `pixel/` | pixel | therealqtpi | [AGPLv3+](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.txt) |
| `mono/` | mono | Thibault Duplessis and Colin M.L. Burnett | [GPLv2+](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-2.0.txt) |

`mono/w*.svg` and `mono/b*.svg` are locally recolored from the single-tone
source files (`fill`/`stroke` swapped to a light or dark gray) — the shapes
are unmodified from upstream.

AGPLv3+ is a strong network copyleft license. It has not historically been
read to extend to an application that merely *displays* independent static
media assets shipped alongside it (the same reasoning applies to bundling a
GPL font), but it has not been legally tested for this exact case either. If
this app is ever distributed under different terms, get that read confirmed
before shipping `alpha/` or `pixel/` — swapping them out is a one-line change
in `lib/pieceSets.ts` if needed.
